Receiving an encrypted PDF you do have the password for is now common: telecom bills, bank statements, payslips, medical records. The problem: the password has to be typed at every open, the PDF can't be edited by other tools, and archiving becomes painful.

ModySign removes the password directly in your browser via pdf-lib. No upload, no server trace, zero leak risk. You keep full control of the confidential document — which matters a lot for a payslip or a medical record you absolutely would not want to send to Smallpdf, iLovePDF or Sejda servers.

Important: this tool doesn't break protections, it strips encryption when you already know the password. If you don't know it, no legitimate tool will open it. If the PDF uses very strong encryption (AES-256 from Acrobat 9+, or a public-key handler) it may not be supported by pdf-lib — a clear message will tell you so.

Does this tool break PDF protections I don't have the password for?+

No. You have to know and type the open password for the tool to work. No legitimate tool breaks a PDF password — that's exactly what encryption is designed to prevent.

Is my PDF uploaded to your servers?+

No, never. Decryption runs entirely in your browser via pdf-lib. Your file never leaves your machine — crucial for a payslip or a medical record, and the opposite of what Smallpdf, iLovePDF or Sejda do when they upload your documents to their foreign servers.

Why does my PDF show "unsupported encryption"?+

Some PDFs use very strong encryption (AES-256 from Acrobat 9+) or a public-key handler that pdf-lib can't yet read in the browser. In that case, open the PDF in Acrobat Reader with the password, then "Save as…" without a password, or use our server-side tool on the Pro plan.

Is the password stored anywhere?+

No. The password is used only in browser memory by pdf-lib to decrypt the document, then it's gone. Nothing is sent to our servers and nothing is stored in your browser.
